About - The Serven Clan - Winter 2007

The Serven Clan
Marcus and Cheryl
Rebecca (26); Nathan (23); Elizabeth (22); Peter (18 almost 19); Benjamin (16); Sarah (14); Lydia (11); Andrew (8); and Joel (5).
In updating "Our Abode" pictures, we thought you might also like to see a picture of all the members of the Serven Clan one year older (and hopefully wiser! : ).

Each year is a continual wonderment as the days keep growing better and better--not necessarily easier mind you! But there is a deepening understanding and amazement of our sinfulness and God's graciousness. I can only attribute this to God's overwhelming mercies being showered upon us and covering our radical depravity with His redeeming love. It is beyond comprehension. How great a God we serve.

Thank you for blessing us with your beautiful family photo. It represents the example of a godly family yielded to Christ as pictured in His Word. "Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named...That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all saints...And to know the love of Christ which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God." (Eph. 3:15-19)

Thank you for your sweet encouragement. : )

It was a fun and funny time trying to take the photograph. Peter set up the self timer on the camera and I squished everyone into position. Our problem was two fold. We had rigged up a sheet and taped it to the ceiling to soften the flash--but it kept coming unstuck from the ceiling!

AND the flash batteries were quite old and needed to be charged at least 3 minutes between each picture. This made for an interesting combination of waiting for the flash to recharge, setting the timer, running over to get in the picture, jumping up to catch the sheet before it became unstuck from the ceiling and leaping back into position right before the camera clicked. We were all laughing so hard it was difficult to keep sober enough in the photo.

Because the flash was so uncooperative in 45 minutes of picture taking process we only got about 8 or 10 pictures. AND in most of them one of our little persons was trying SO hard to not squint his eyes. But, that made for most of the pictures coming out with him having rather round and open eyes! We were glad one of the picture turned out with all that hilarious rigamarole. : )

Joyful in Christ,
Rebecca

now all that tomfoolery just to get a family photo is pretty amazing....the spirit of fun, and perseverance under pressure (or is that, under the sheet....?) makes it all the more amazing. But whatcha NEED is some help.....but then, you'd not have all those memories of the event itself. Reminds me a bit of setting up the "Sibling Shot" when my youngest sister was wed---formal, posed, at the altar, and all that. I was "The Wedding Photographer" for the event, but had to be IN this one. I set it up, and impressed an innocent bystander into service to push the plunger. Amazingly enough, we got a good one....in fact, as I write, I can see my own print of it, the nine of us all dressed to the nines. But it wasn't NEAR as much fun as you lot had doing yours. Great "backstory".

Nice photo folks!

The angle of that picture makes Peter's hands look enormous...

He could pick up a basketball one handed with those hands.

It is absolutely without question, wonderful that the good Lord has blessed your family so. Cheryl and Marcus, with so many beautiful children and a safe haven from the loneliness and crisis that the world tends to bring, even with Christ at the center of a life.
It is wonderful to see when God in His ultimate wisdom decides to bless a family, and I am glad it is yours. God help those of us who have a little less love, a little less family, and a little less freedom from the tradegies of life.
No one can understand the ways of the Father, except His Son, and us, when we get to Heaven. I am thankful that your families time here on earth is blessed. You are all truely blessed.

Mr. Jesch,

What fun! A joyfilled time I'm sure.

Dear Anonymous,

The Lord gives many gifts. It is not our job to decide wether they are joys or sorrows, blessings or curses. It is our job to joy in that He gave us the gift for our good and His glory. We are blessed. And so are you. Praying for you.

In Christ,
Rebecca

Dear Cheryl and Family,
What a treat to have a "peek" into your daughter's engagement and wedding (and have the distinction of now being a fellow-Wisconsinite with her!)and family!
How precious that in the Providence of God, through the death of my husband's grandmother, our lives have been woven together in God's divine fabric of those who know His covenant love.
We wish you all well, and hope to see you at the Reformation Faire in October (if not sooner!). Please stop by in Waukesha if you find your way heading to Sheboygan!

Blessings,
