Trip 2008: Sunrise Hike

Early morning darkness.

One morning at the Renewing the Family Camp, a group of us decided to wake early and hike to the top of a nearby hill to watch the sunrise. The hike was only a short distance, perhaps 1 mile round trip, but we really enjoyed it.

Once we got to the crest of the hill, we read some passages of scripture, and sang psalms and hymns. It was glorious. Singing four part harmony while waiting for the sunrise, worshiping God early in the morning--can't get much better than that. : )

We ended up having to wait a while for the sun to peak over the mountains, but it was worth it. Very beautiful portion of God's creation.

Sitting in the dark.

Singing Psalms.

A little more light.

God's word surrounded by His works.

A faint glow in the east.

More readings.

The sun is finally starting to break through!

The sun peeks over the top of the mountains.

Heading back down the hill.

The sun-rose.

Hello! That looked like a special hike, and reminded me of the things we used to do at a family camp in Colorado. I remember taking a sunrise horseback ride once.
Creating memories is one of the wonderful reasons for a trip!

Rebecca, what a great idea that was! I'll have to drag my crew out of bed one morning next year and do that. Maybe that will motivate them not to stay up until the wee hours with the Gibas' and Skeens....or not. We do hope we'll see you all at RTFC in coming years. Your family added so much to the event.

I'm sure the experience was unforgettable. The pictures are beautiful!

Aunt Linda, I'll do what I can to advocate a similar hike. It would be lovely.

Dear Renee,

Memories are precious things. I'm sure you treasure all the time spent with your dad, mom, and brother. I've not had much experience with riding horse--the last time, in fact, was when we visited the Simpson's ranch in 2002. : )

Dear Mrs. Spencer,

I sure hope we can attend the RTFC again! Everyone had such a wonderful and relaxing time. If we do end up coming, we'll have to coordinate our sunrise hikes!

Dear Sarah,

Glad you enjoyed the pictures. It was a beautiful morning--the Lord is so kind. You'll have to join us too, next year, Lord willing.

Dear Sallie,

The air was crisp to match the scenery. It was a gorgeous day.

Resting In His Joy,
Rebecca

My family went on a geology camping trip with some friends a couple years ago and I did something similar- I went on to the top of a hill and read my Bible until the sun rose over the mountains- it was a very precious time getting to be with the Lord and see the sun rise over the mountains opposite and valley below me! Unfortunately no one else in camp likes to get up as early as I do so they didn't get to enjoy the incredible beauty of it.

How beautiful! I can only imagine how marvelous it was to witness a beautful sunrise, with harmony singing! To think...in Heaven,we can all sing perfect harmony together, all day long...to Jesus! See you there!
