A productive room is not always the neatest. : )
As we hinted at before, Sarah and I have been sewing up a storm. Here are some of the fruits of our labors. A few last minute ones are still in the works!
Our tool of choice.
Sarah's overskirt turned out quite charming.
Sarah's new bodice.

Modified Jamestown costume for a Reformation Era effect.

Rebecca and Sarah,
Beautiful comtumes!:) We had been wanting to make some for Reformation Day (like Martin Luthur, John Calvin, John Knox, etc.), but we had the idea way to late! ;)

Oh, Rebecca!
How lovely it is! It looks like you and Sarah are quite the efficient seamstresses! It is so nice to see your smiling face, you are not so usually in the pictures....ha, ha..if that made any sense.
Love you all,
Jean Marie
Where there is no ox, the stall is clean. But where the ox is, there is much work done. And oh, what beautiful work this is! (messes can always be dealt with once the work is done).
I do hope there will be an extensive "photo article" on the celebration. Sounds like a gloriously fun and rich time (I checked out the website linked.... sigh.) I had thought to join in another such celebration in another state, but time and travel make it impractical, and, this weekend, my own church will be having a seven-congregation (maybe eight?) celebration Sunday. I'll be helping with the coffee and tea.... No, we won't be doing period costumes, just revelling in great fellowship and teaching (oh, and food) with about a thousand others....
Do have a great time up in Illinois, I'm sure you lot will be, in classic Serven style, making a weekend of it, in close fellowship with many other saints.
Beautiful!! I love the blue on you!!
God bless,
Sallie
You look great Rebecca! and you would be scared to see my sewing room...

How very lovely! Some of my favorite memories are from working on sewing projects (last minute) with my sisters. What a blessing to have a constant friend.
I actually stopped in to ask if y'all will have snow soon. It's turning cold here and so I have thought of you up there may times and finally just had to ask. Snow makes for some of the best family memories.
In one of your pictures there is a wedding ring quilt. Is that your parent's? Or a family heirloom maybe? It's very pretty and caught my eye along with the kitty pin cushion. Things like those make a home warm and friendly. We're still working on the little touches like those here in the new home.
Anyway, it looks like your making fond family memories together, one of the greatest treasures in life!
God Bless,
Kelly
I didn't get to see your finished work - it looks great! Sarah's vest looks very nice and the hat turned out perfect!
Dear Johanna,
You should make them!! They could be just in time for the the Reformation 500 Celebration next year! : )
Dear Jean Marie,
That is because, unless Peter is around, I'm usually the one taking the pictures. However, more recently, Sarah has been working on photography--now I need to make sure she gets in a few pictures! Hope your family is doing well.
Mr. Jesch,
True, true. I wasn't complaining, though it would be lovely to have a sewing room/corner/nook someday. Hope your own celebration went well!
Dear Sallie,
Thank you! I like that color too. : )
Dear Mrs. Bringe,
Thank you for being such a kind benefactress, enabling the costumes to even happen at all!
Dear Kelly,
Sewing with sisters is a joy. Sarah is my usual sewing partner, thought Beth sews too, and Lydia has made some lovely doll clothes by hand, none the less! And some of our brothers, who will remain unnamed, are quite proficient themselves--making sleeping bags, back-packs, etc. It's a fun tool to use.
We were out of town for the cold snap, but I don't think they got any snow here--we did get a little snow where we were visiting. It was more like ice balls than snow though. : )
Yes, the quilt is a family heirloom. I think it was my grandma's aunt's quilt. Very special to have a family reminder like that in our home. We actually have a lot of those; our great grandparents and grandparents have been so sweet to give things to us.
Dear Mrs. Houghton,
I'm so glad you got to see the finished product! : ) We're going to have to get some sewing 'lessons' together sometime with you all.
Resting in His joy,
Rebecca
Rebecca,
I did make three costumes. Mine was one kind of like Sarah's. Jaden's was kind of like an archer's outfit. Phoebe's was a queen's outfit. Abby and Caleb just wore something from our church.
I think I'd have to modify the costumes to be fit for next Reformation Day!!!
