Reformation Day Faire: Getting Ready at the McDonalds

Juggling Lessons by Ben.

Caleb starts with two balls.

Just like Dad.

Sir William the Wise.

Someone suggested a costume for Peter. He was game to try it: "Are you sure this is how it goes?"

"How do you even get this thing on!?"

"A-ha! Now I know the secret reason why Luther demited monkhood!"

"I just don't know if I'm going to stay this way."

"Well, lets at least take a picture of the costumed (for now) Servens."

"Smile for the camera!"

SO.. Peter is finally able to come back and rejoin the family for a spell, and what do you DO to him right off? Pretty funny, even if he does say its embarrassing. I cracked up with his "secret reason", though. Reminds me of that scene in Sister act where Whoopi Goldberg is sorting out how to get into her nun's duds. I suppose once one has done it every day for months, years, its nothing at all. Once in a great while, well, that's another matter. Peter, rest assured you've scored some style points and cool points for "suffering"....

Reformation Night is one of my childrens' favorite holidays. :) Our costumes aren't quite as good as yours though.

Dear Tiffany and Jessica,

Thanks so much for having us in your home. It was fun to visit with your family--your assistance in memory making was greatly appreciated. : ) Next time we'll have to see if we can do a better convincing job on the costume!

Dearest Peter,

: )

Dear Sallie,

We had a marvelous time. We posted the pictures once we arrived home from the weekend's events. : )

Dear Andrea,

We laughed to hear that your Mom laughed. : ) I'm glad to make someone smile.

Mr. Jesch,

Well, Peter agreed to trying it on! I tend to agree with you though--Peter certainly scored 'Most Fun Brother' points by playing along with us. : )

Dear Kerri,

Thanks for visiting the blog! Our costumes aren't really that complicated--some borrowed, some sewn, not 100% accurate, but fun to give the effect. I'm sure your children will make many memories celebrating Reformation Day. Praise God for his amazing work of revival during those years, and continuing even to our own day.

Resting in His joy,
Rebecca

Boy did Joel look funny with those glasses on!!! LOL! We've tried that around here sometimes. ;)

Oh, I think all of y'all looked great in y'all's costumes! And, Peter looked terribly funny in that monk costume.

Blessings,

Peter, where is your tonsure? ;)

Excellent pictures all around; it looks like you guys had a fun time celebrating Reformation Day.

Hey Peter, I like your costume. :-D In lieu of dressing up, I have been listening to Rushdoony's segment for Reformation in his world history tapes. Interesting how Luther was very strong in terms of God's sovereignty (Bondage of the Will) even before Calvin systematized it.

Hey Jonathan (or shall I call you Dr. Watson?); interesting how the cyberspace is connected like this! :D

Miss Rebecca, the adventure with Peter sort of reminds me of my friends nearby. Five girls, then a boy. And, in the words of his Father, he is ALL boy (5 yrs now). His big sisters don't tend to sissify him at all, but they DO enjoy playing dressup, even the wee lad. But always MANLY sorts of dress for him. Its hilarious to watch them at it!! I wonder, when he's Peter's age, will his big sisters yet play dress-up with him? I'm betting yes.....

Dear Johanna,

It was fun dressing everyone up. : )

Jonathan,

I must admit, I had to look up 'tonsure' to find out what it meant! We decided we didn't have time for any hair modifications for that day. Besides, I don't think that would work well for his usual work dress code. : )

Ray,

Rushdoony's lectures on World History are quite excellent and worthy listening material. Have you broken open any of his books yet?

Mr. Jesch,

Dressing up is always fun, no matter what your age.

Resting in His joy,
Rebecca

Rebecca,

I'm kind of jealous of you and Sarah's ability of sewing so well! ;)

Dear Johanna,

Now, now, my dear. You shouldn't be jealous. Sewing is a very learnable skill--just like playing the piano. : ) When my mother first started teaching me to sew when I was 9, I vowed I would never try it again, it was so frustrating. Well, I broke my vow when I was 13, and tried again. It was so much easier! Now, after sewing for 15 years,iIt isn't as hard, but that's all because I practiced. You, too, could be a wonderful seamstress. Practice makes perfect!

Start with something simple, like a skirt: two rectangles sewn together, turn up a hem and sew. Fold over a waistband, put in some elastic, and you'll have a simple skirt. You can experiment by putting lace on the edge or a ruffle, and then expand to learning how to do a waistband and zipper. All these things just take a small investment of time to learn.

Happy sewing! : )

Oh Rebecca! You're so funny!!! :)

Well, I'll keep practicing, but not now, (our sewing machine isn't working well). :( I love sewing, but can't do any now!!! Oh, well.
Maybe our dear Grams will come and show us how it's suppose to work, before Christmas!

P.S. thank you so much for the encouragement!
