Night Out at the Symphony

Powell Symphony Hall, here we come!

Every year, Classic 99, our local Classical Music Radio Station, hosts an unforgettable concert tailored especially for the family. With musical selections treasured through the years, and a family friendly price rate (!) this event makes it on the Serven Clan calender almost every year.

The hall is so ornate, it almost takes your breath away.

Passing out tickets and checking our seat assignments.

A Symphony Tradition: running into the Burns family.

Winding up the red carpet to our assigned section.

The symphony.

Tonight's selections included:
  • MENDELSSOHN Movement I from Symphony No. 4, “Italian”
  • DVOŘÁK Slavonic Dances, op.46, nos. 1, 4, and 8
  • MASSENET Meditation from Thaïs
  • TCHAIKOVSKY Waltz from Sleeping Beauty
  • BEETHOVEN Movement I from Symphony No. 5
  • BARBER Adagio
  • J.STRAUSS On the Beautiful Blue Danube
  • SIBELIUS Finlandia
My personal favorite was the Mendelssohn. : ) Also the Dvorak was quite invigorating. We all agreed this program was much superior to last years. Any other concert goers disagree?

Shutting down the place: we are always the last to leave.

Wait. There are still people in the Grand Hall!

Andrew.

Some Zes and Serven girls.

Parents chatting.

Standing around talking while some people eat cookies.

Just one more picture of those chandeliers!

The New and Revised [read: smaller] Serven Clan out on an adventure.

Night comes to Powell Hall.

Don't you like the fog in this picture? : ) After getting a mid-night snack, we stood around again and closed down the ice cream shop!

ah the wild nightlife! You forgot to mention the 1 1/2 hour drive home after all that fun. Barber Adagio is awesome.

Music and ice cream... two of life's sweetest essentials. :) We would agree this concert was far superior to last year's; and this conductor was especially fun to watch with his exuberant energy and that mop of hair that was constantly flopping back and forth!! You guys may always be the last to leave, but it seems we're usually right there with you! ;) What a fun night!

Good job with the new camera, Sarah!

Yes, Miss Sarah, excellent work with that camera. I also thought the outside night images of the theater were well done. Perfect exposure and sharp focus are the keys to such work, and you "nailed" them both. If this is your "early work", I can only imagine what is to come......

Sounds like this concert was a delightful evening for all..... and a great lineup of performed works. And, what a beautiful old classic venue for such work. When they "restored" our local concert hall they modernised it so much its now got a sterile, dead look..... this one has been marvellously preserved. Like the saying goes: "they don't make them like they used to". Pity, that....

glad you were able to enjoy such a great evening.

Wonderful job, Sarah. I am looking forward to seeing more of your work. I was so excited to hear about your new camera in your letter...it sounds very nice. You have quite the job to live up there for the Serven Clan to but you'll do wonderfully. :) Keep up the great work!

PS. So who's camera were you toting around before the wedding?! ;)
