The birthday boy opening his first (surprise) packages.
Ben recently celebrated his 19th birthday! His birthday celebration spanned several days with multiple surprises from friends and family alike. Everyone loves Ben.

Trying to guess what it could be.

The Bringe family put together a wonderful surprise gift and dropped it by one day out of the blue.

An authentic Colonial Costume!!

The full effect. : ) Reformation 500 here we come!!

On Ben's actual date of birth, all-8-Servens-who-were-home greatly enjoyed the movie Up!! Yes, several of us even cried. A beautiful picture of faithfulness in marriage through all seasons of life, plus the importance of making a difference, a true view of adventure, discipleship, and investing your life in other people. Later that day, some more special little friends surprised Ben.

Hey!! Look who is here!

The Houghtons and Hamanns. : )

Special little buddies from church.

Master Griller cooking his own birthday dinner.

Grilled to perfection.

Flaming high.

Sitting around after dinner telling 'Ben stories'.

A special frog made by a special young person.

Peter calls to say happy birthday!

Texas Sheet Cake and Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream on the Special Red Plate.

Mom and Lydia breaking out the old guitar and the new-to-Lydia-yet-old-violin.

Jon and Beth call late at night and sing one last Happy Birthday over the phone.

Happy Birthday Ben. Looks like he had a very special time. Every time our family looks at your blog my husband comments that you all seem like such a nice family. Hope we get to meet you someday.
Many happy returns of the day,
Victoria
Happy Birthday, Ben :)
Happy Birthday, Ben... looks like you've had a rather full and blessed time of it! I like, a lot, the different things shown in the photos... fun things, the great suit of clothes, the obvious special relationships you have with some of the "shorter ones", close family time, your good cookin', family music, and general all round fun together. I'd love to sit and hear some of those "Ben stories"... (and Miss Lydia's fiddlin'... good to see she's got a "new" one.) You'll certainly be "stylin" in Boston with that "old" suit of clothes. What fun times!!
Happy Birthday, Ben--those hamburgers are making my mouth water.
Oh, that was such a special post! To see Ben with all those little ones as their "hero"! This is truly changing the world. :)
I made a mistake in the card, I believe. I said happy 18th birthday! Sorry about that.
Ah, so y'all do the red plate thing too?! We do.
Johanna
Thanks to every one for the Birthday wishes. One thing that was not mentioned, was that I was given a bohdran. Hopefully some of you readers will get a chance to hear it some time in the near future. : )
Benjamin
Ben, a bodhran, then? Great!! There is a silly Irish song you should learn, and sing/play it for your sister Beth. About a billy goat and a fine bodhran...... can't recall just now who I heard do it, likely Cathal with the Cheiftains.
Benjamin,
You are certainly welcome!
I like the idea of spreading out Brithday gifts, so that's what we did with my Dad's last two Birthday gifts--- we gave them to him about five days after his Birthday. His Birthday was the day after your brother Nathan's Birthday. Actually, my Dad was born on Fathers' Day at 2:02 am and since his Dad was a preacher, he had to preach at morning church service later that day!!! I'm sure he was very tired.
Blessings
Johanna
